iKapa Dance Theatre Philosophy
iKapa Dance Theatre is a Contemporary and Neo-Classical Dance Company that, through the medium of Dance, produce unique works, trains and mentors the youth, while inspiring, as well as challenging our peers to business practices based on integrity.
This unique style of Dance, transcends Dance Art and lends itself as a tool for social transition, by uniting social, political and economic values to become more than an Artform. Our philosophy of excellence goes beyond performance and is visible in our social responsibility activities of empowerment.
iKapa Dance Theatre is an innovative new dance company that aims to reinvigorate classical dance in South Africa. iKAPA has the power to entertain and delight but also to empower and educate. iKAPA Dance Company was founded by Theo Ndindwa (link to biography) and Tanya Arshamian (link to biography) as a non-profit organization in July 2007. Since its establishment, iKapa has undergone substantial change and has enjoyed the support of funders, the result of which is most notable in the company’s outreach program, Imbewu yeKapa (link to the outreach).
80% of iKAPA’s full time employees are successful products of an Outreach Program, who have utilized their opportunities to the fullest degree to achieve their hopes and dreams. After a much-anticipated wait, iKAPA Dance Theatre is a proud resident of the New Space Theatre on Long street, Cape Town City Bowl. Since 2007 the company has grown and thus far it is living up to the philosophies and ideologies that it was founded upon.
Some of the values that we believe strongly in and passionately about are the following:
•Excellence In Performance
•Artistic Integrity
•Empowering Outreach
