Mandela Day with iKapa

iKapa Dance Theatre was happy to partner with Safmarine staff to host a Mandela Day initiative on 18 July 2015.

This took place at our newly built Arts & Culture Studio at Bonga Primary School in Gugulethu Township, Cape Town which had been sponsored by Safmarine in 2014. With the energetic help of the Safmarine team, and the students of the iKapa Outreach Programme who are taught at the studio, we were able to beautify and upgrade the space with a clean up, a fresh coat of paint and some new plants.

All participants were involved in planting seedlings, pulling out weeds, painting wooden planks and wheels for the playground, as well as cleaning up and watering the new pretty plant beds.

Safmarine provided everything needed to for this worthy initiative including good food, cooldrinks and a live DJ to keep the energy up. Our team added to the fun atmosphere with face painting and by handing out balloons for the children to enjoy. The day was filled with fun and hard work, and everyone was excited to work together as a team.

The iKapa Dance Theatre kids put on a beautiful show and entertained everyone before we all got busy, showing everyone what the day’s work would go towards and how appreciated it is.

Thank you Safmarine for all your great help and a thank you to everyone who was involved in this initiative.
