Tanya Arshamian

In her role as Assistant Director, Tanya Arshamian performs the duties of Company Administrator and Manager. She has received various training in Arts and Financial Management, and in 2011, Ms. Arshamian participated in ACT Master Classes and Organisational Development and Administration Training with the Cultural Development Trust under the supervision of Maria Kint.

Ms. Arshamian and Mr. Ndindwa co-produced What’s Yours in 2008 which was nominated for a Kanna Award at the KKNK under the category of Best Production, bringing international attention to iKapa Dance. Ms. Arshamian co-choreographed NAVRAS with Mr. Ndindwa in 2008, choreographed I No in 2009, co-staged and danced in Stadium in 2009 and on the 2010 tour, and in 2010/11 choreographed and directed FUSE. This was followed by the 2012 production INHALE/EXHALE and My Space? which premiered at the Oude Libertas Theatre in January 2013.

Ms. Arshamian trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. After graduating in 2002, she represented the UK in the prestigious international Adeline Genee Competition in Sydney, Australia. In 2003 she worked with Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance Company, undertaking research and development of Ataxia as well as performing in A.W.O.L at the Robin Howard Theatre in London. In 2004 she worked with Mr. Ndindwa and Andile Sotiya on Stadium and Barwen Tavaziva, and later joined Rashpal Bansal’s Polyphony Dance Co. where she worked on various productions throughout the UK.

After moving to Cape Town in August 2005, Ms. Arshamian freelanced as a dancer and choreographer with companies such as Dance 4 All, Adele Blank and Free Flight Dance Company, The Brigitte Reeves Dance Company, Jikeleza and Cape Town City Ballet.
